Campaign to end use of wildlife in TCM mooted
Animals Asia has been invited to work with Chinese officials to develop a public awareness campaign against wildlife use in traditional Chinese medicine. Madam Xiong Beirong, the head of the Wildlife Protection Department under Sichuan Forestry, made the suggestion at a recent meeting after hearing our concerns about contaminants in bear bile and the danger these could pose to consumers. She also agreed to work towards the rescue of more bears early next year, once a major inspection of bear bile farms has been completed.

In the past two weeks, we have been called upon by provincial Forestry Protection Departments (FPD) in Vietnam to take into our care two more sun bears. Such is the vicious bear bile industry that it is not restricted to moon bears – any bear is in danger of being trapped in a lifetime of pain to support it. It does not discriminate.
